Charleston, SC – Drayton House

At the Drayton house they pride themselves on the preservation of the house and grounds, not the restoration. They don’t have any period furniture in there unless it was left with the house. They have left the house much as how it was found. It was actually really interesting to see it in such a raw state.
Here we are driving up the long drive to the house.

If you were to walk straight through from the front door through the middle door you would see the back door like below, and a double sided staircase.

Off the main room was a side room, the tile on the mantel would have been the tile surrounding the fireplace, they found it among some rubbish in the house.

In the side room there were stairs up to the attic, and a strange window seat

Back down the stairs and outside. The view of the grass is towards the river from the back door. We went into the basement but I unfortunately only took one picture of the big fireplace. It was a little drab down there.

In the distance is the potty house, and below is a picture of what the set up would have been like.

On our way back to Charleston we stopped by the oldest church in South Carolina. It was closed, so I’m not sure what part is the oldest.

From here we decided to go out to Folly Beach to spend the remainder of the afternoon on the beach. You can check that out in the next post.
